Star Furniture: The Beginning
Star Furniture was founded in 1912, when three men combined their resources to purchase a horse and buggy to deliver furniture throughout Houston. In 1924, Boris Wolff, a Russian immigrant, bought a ¼ interest in the furniture, which eventually led to the company’s growth. In fact, by 1950, Star Furniture had six locations in Texas.
Star Furniture: 1950-2000
In the 1950s, Boris Wolff decided to pass down his share of the company to his children: Melvyn Wolff and Shirley Wolff Toomim. In an attempt to grow the business even further, the Wolff’s decided to sell the company to Warren Buffett in 1997. Beginning with that sale, Star Furniture became a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, a multinational conglomerate holding company run by Warren Buffett.
Star Furniture: The 2000s
In 2012, 100 years after it was founded, Star Furniture became the longest running furniture store in Texas. We now have 10 locations, including Star Furniture stores in Houston, Austin, Bryan, and San Antonio, Texas. In fact, our most recent location, Star Furniture & Mattress in Cypress, opened in 2019.
